This week’s question comes from a local business having difficulty managing social media:
I am looking for a simple, efficient way to post to all my social media sites. I routinely use Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Plurk. I would LOVE to find something that would update all of my social media sites each time I update my blog, want to update my status or pass on a great link . Any ideas? Also, are there any applications that will update Facebook group/fan pages? I have several groups that I would like to update automatically from my business blog but I haven’t been able to find a good tool to do this.
It’s certainly a good idea to seek out a time saving solution to help manage all of your social profiles. Luckily, there are many tools and applications available to help streamline your social media interactions so you can stay active in your networks without having to spend tons of time visiting each social site. Many social networks allow you to submit your blog’s RSS feed to your profile so every time you update your blog, your social profiles are simultaneously updated with the blog content. To submit your RSS feed, you will need to visit each social network and add your blog feed to your profile but once this is complete, you will have created your own content delivery channels that will automatically update your social networks with every new blog post. You can also add your blog’s RSS feed to your Facebook pages by selecting the Notes tab on your page, choosing Write A New Note, then clicking on Import Blog – it’s that easy! You should also check out Ping.fm [http://www.ping.fm] – a free service delivering that great link, interesting article, or clever thought you want to share to over 40 social media networks with the click of a button. You can send your messages to Ping.fm via your mobile phone, IM, email, or a third party application. But keep an eye out – there are new social media management tools popping up all the time!
This is a tough question. Currently there are many tools and applications available for free – check out friendfeed.com and hellotxt.com. They will allow you to update your social media sites (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Plurk) in one single interface. However, you will still need to update your blog separately as their APIs won’t push or pull any updates from/to your blog. Kelly’s blog RSS feed tip will save you some time updating your Facebook Pages and Linkedin profile . However, Facebook doesn’t let you submit your blog’s RSS feed in your groups page or profile. Yet…
Great question and one I think most of us that use Social Media are struggling with. I personally use ping.fm and Hootsuite to manage all my different profiles and accounts. It’s not a perfect solution but it helps me stay organized. Hootsuite just added some great new features including running RSS feeds from your blog or wherever directly into your Twitter accounts. It’s also possible to configure Ping.fm directly from the Hootsuite interface so I can share a link or news item to one of my Twitter accounts via Hootsuite and it’ll automatically go out to any social media platform I have configured through Ping.fm. Pretty cool! Stay tuned for an upcoming TMMPDX podcast where we will be discussing this subject with resident expert, Ryan Lewis from Bonfire Social Media.
