TMM’s core value is providing community and support to new MODERN marketers and nurturing fresh talent. We are extremely excited to announce our #tmmMentoring | Thoroughly Modern Mentoring pilot program to launch fall 2014.
The program will pair marketing students and industry newbies with experienced industry leaders. Our hope is that the mentor and mentee relationship will be mutually beneficial and provide a lifetime of inspiration and aspiration for those involved.
How Can You Participate?
We are currently looking for experienced digital marketers to volunteer to assist a mentee with their professional development. If you are interested in becoming a #tmmMentoring Mentor, please contact Lisa Peyton at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are also seeking out candidates to qualify as our first batch of Mentees. The program is open to anyone who has an interest in digital marketing and aspires to develop a body of work in the field. Each potential mentee will be required to submit the below candidate submission form and participate in a brief phone interview.

Billie is known for her contagious enthusiasm, her ability to build long-term relationships and her talent for turning often high-concept ideas into memorable consumer experiences.
Daniela Araujo, Senior Paid Search Strategist at Pollinate
Daniela Araujo has over 8 years of experience in the online marketing industry. Her online marketing experience covers a broad spectrum of small to enterprise level businesses: from education and technology to tourism, real estate, automotive, financial and e-commerce. She is specialized in Paid and Organic Internet Marketing Strategies. She got her start as a Jr. Account Manager at ValueClick Media in 2005, managing and optimizing display ads campaigns. She also worked as Media Services Manger at White Horse; Paid Search Account Manager at LessonPlanet.com and Search Strategist at EngineWorks Inc.
Tom Bennett, Design Strategy Consultant
Tom Bennett has over a decade of digital strategy experience working with many Fortune 500 companies. His areas of specialization include Strategic vision and alignment, ideation, social community development, social media strategy and strategic positioning.
Amanda Bernard, Director of Digital Marketing ISITE Design
Amanda Bernard brings years of campaign strategy experience to the program. She has partnered with the Susan G. Komen foundation to provide two mentees with the opportunity to work on real-life campaigns.
Amanda’s specialties include online marketing, SEO, SEM and Pay-Per-Click (PPC).
Joseph Gallivan, Published Author, Writer and Business Reporter at Portland Tribune
Joseph finds unconventional, compelling stories and craft them with purpose and an attention to detail. He has mastered forms such as the long profile, the preview, the review, the Q&A, the think piece, the spot news piece, the column, the pitch, the press release, the benefit statement and, finally, the list.
He has been copywriting with a specialty in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and looks for stories about creative culture, and write copy for companies which are striving to be prominent online. He was a contract writer for the Portland Timbers website during their first season in Major League Soccer, writing about fan culture and doing player color pieces.
He has completed a third novel, “PDX”, a play “Wordsworth and Coleridge Do Oktoberfest” and is working on another novel, “Warriors Come Out To Play.”
Raime Merriman, Product Marketing Director at Smarsh and President Portland Female Executives

Jonathan Pape, Senior Creative Strategist at Yahoo
Jonathan loves to tinker with systems and build enterprise solutions for advertising problems. Whether the advertiser is a startup trying to maximize budgets, a nationwide retail chains searching for a mobile advertising solutions, or a household brands trying to monetize social media fans, Jon has a knack of creating flexible, innovative solutions that scale.
Jon’s background includes stints at Siemens, Expedia, Meijer, and briefly teaching Strategic Marketing at Davenport University before getting the heck out of Michigan and moving to the temperate rain forests of Portland, Oregon. He currently works at Yahoo and is training for his first Hood to Coast race.
Lisa Peyton, Digital Marketing Strategist and PSU Adjunct Professor (TMMPDX.COM Executive Editor)
Lisa has over a decade of experience with digital marketing, content creation and social media strategy. She is passionate about the future of digital technology and wants to share this passion with her mentee. Lisa’s key strengths include social media storytelling, branding, blogging, writing and strategy.
Joleen Ong, Director of Marketing and Publications at NTEN
Joleen Ong is the Marketing and Publications Director at NTEN: The Nonprofit Technology Network, where she works to help its community of over 50,000 nonprofit professionals meet their mission through technology. At NTEN, she is the editor of NTEN’s Change Journal, a quarterly publication for nonprofit leaders (nten.org/ntenchange). She is a webinar trainer at fundsforngos.org, and member/blogger of the Integrated Marketing Advisory Board (IMAB) at imabgroup.net. She is also a contributor to the 2014 publication, ‘Annual Editions: Technologies, Social Media, and Society’ and was the editor of two award-winning short documentaries.
Ileana Rowe, Marketing and Business Development Professional
Ileana provides excellent “on-the-ground” product management, marketing and field sales experience with the ability to anticipate potential problems, create innovative solutions and structure “win-win” client contracts.
Ileana’s specialties include identifying market opportunities to build brand equity and drive revenue growth. She has worked for over a decade in the education sector and brings a comprehensive understanding of the K-12 education market.
Melanie Spring, Chief Inspiration Officer of Sisarina
As the Chief Inspiration Officer of Sisarina, a DC-based branding firm, Melanie Spring built her business with a strong content marketing strategy. With an innate sense for social media, connecting with her customers, and building a culture around Sisarina’s brand, Melanie teaches businesses and non-profits how to rock their brand. She toured the US on the Live Your Brand Tour collecting stories from businesses living their brand, which is now published in Entrepreneur Magazine.
Joel Bornzin, Marketing Manager
Joel has studied digital marketing and multimedia content strategies at the USC Marshall School of Business and most recently completed the program for Digital Marketing Strategies at Portland State University.
Joel Bornzin is currently the Online Marketing Manager for CRKT, working with the world’s finest roster of Knife Designers including Ken Onion, Kit Carson, and Brian Tighe. Joel is responsible for the all of the company’s digital marketing channels, including social media promotions and community management.
