6) “How to Craft a Winning Entry” Workshop for the 2009 Spotlight Awards – Thursday July 9th, TBD
No matter the size of an organization, its reputation is often one of its most valuable assets. The job of guarding and enhancing that reputation many times falls upon the shoulders of those in the communications and public relations industry. And when an organization’s reputation drops, communications professionals are often called to help revive it. PRSA-Portland’s 2009 Spotlight Awards: Reputation Rebound will recognize the hard work and ingenuity of local communications and public relations professionals who produce outstanding and creative programs. These skilled individuals and teams help not only the companies they represent thrive; they also enhance the value of public relations as a profession.
To showcase a true reputation rebound, members of the award-winning Portland Trail Blazers communications team will be the keynote speakers at this year’s Spotlight Awards event in the fall. They will speak about how they helped the Trail Blazers manage what has been perhaps the greatest reputation rebound in the history of Oregon and Southwest Washington.

10) CHIFOO Presents: Reading and Collaborating in a Digital Age– Wednesday July 8th, 7:00pm

Computer-Human Interaction Forum of Oregon’s (CHIFOO) July program will discuss reading as an inherently social experience: what we read and how we read it is shaped by who we know and the broader communities we belong to. Cathy Marshall will take a fresh look at the future of eBooks and how we get there from here. In particular, she will share some findings from a body of studies of reading-related activities (such as annotation and clipping) and will draw on her experiences with several generations of eBook products, including Microsoft Reader, ePeriodicals (a reader for magazines like The New Yorker and Esquire), and the Times News Reader (an RSS-based reader for The New York Times). Cathy Marshall is a Senior Researcher at Microsoft Research, Silicon Valley. She was also a long-time member of the research staff at Xerox PARC. This event is free for CHIFOO members, $5 for Non-members.
