It’s November, which means the holiday season is in full swing! To help our readers celebrate the spirit of the giving season, this month’s events list includes charity events as well as Portland marketing events. Did you know that the average American consumes 7100 calories on Thanksgiving? Thankfully you can offset some of those calories by participating in Sherwood’s annual Give n’ Gobble 5K run/walk and 10K run on Thanksgiving at the Sherwood High School stadium. The purpose of this event, besides being a great way to rev up your metabolism, is to raise money for Helping Hands, a local food bank affiliated with the Oregon Food Bank. This single event funds Helping Hands’ annual expenses, enabling them to provide hundreds of needy families with not only canned food and other nonperishable items, but also dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables. This heart-warming event has become a Thanksgiving holiday tradition, drawing runners and walkers of all ages who want to start the day doing something fun and healthy with their family & neighbors while also helping those less fortunate. Registration is required, get $5 off by registering before November 5th! Race fees are $30 for 10K Run, $25 for 5K Run/5K Walk, $15 Students, $65 Family Package. Registered participants who donate a bag of non-perishable food get a free t-shirt (while supplies last).

Enjoy a fun evening while helping to fight hunger “Under the Big Top” at Oregon Food Bank’s annual gala event. 4) Big Brothers Big Sisters “Little Moments Big Magic Breakfast”, Tuesday November 17th, 7:30am – 8:30am

Big Brothers and Big Sisters hosts a free breakfast each November to highlight the amazing results that the staff, volunteers, and community partners have been able to achieve and the CEO informs attendees of the plans for the year ahead. The organization will also share a series of short presentations by members of the community who are directly served by Big Brothers Big Sisters. While this is an official fundraiser, donations are optional as there are many valuable ways to help out such as serving on the board, volunteering as a “big”, donating services, sponsoring events, or simply by telling others about the organization.
